Chapter 14 - THE TRUST ACCOUNT
I had no idea what trust she meant.
Rachel did.
After my father died, a life insurance payout of approximately $350,000 should have been placed into a protected trust for me.
I never received it.
Teresa told me Dad’s debts consumed everything.
That was false.
The trust still existed.
Or at least the shell of it did.
The original funds had been removed through a series of transactions signed by Teresa as temporary custodian.
I was young enough at the time that she had limited authority.
She used it aggressively.
Within eighteen months, nearly all the money was gone.
Some paid debts.
Most did not.
The money moved through businesses connected to Victor.
My father had tried to protect me.
My mother had taken that too.
But one transaction created an unexpected problem for Teresa.
She used $85,000 of the trust money to purchase a parcel of commercial land outside Nashville.
Years later, that land became extremely valuable.
The property had been transferred repeatedly through shell companies.
But the original purchase came directly from my trust.
Rachel smiled for the first time in days.
“She may have accidentally created an asset we can claim.”
The land was currently worth almost $2.4 million.
And Teresa had been collecting rent from it for years.
Suddenly, she was not simply fighting to steal my assets.
She was fighting to keep assets she may have stolen from me decades earlier.
Rachel filed a civil action.
Agent Collins added the evidence to the criminal investigation.
Then Victor made his mistake.
He attempted to sell his interest in one of the shell companies.
Authorities tracked the transaction.
He was arrested in Kentucky two days later.
Samuel Pike was arrested that same night.
Victor immediately requested a deal.
He was willing to testify.
About forged documents.
About Linda.
About fraudulent loans.
About Teresa.
Especially Teresa.
The evidence he provided filled three encrypted drives.
Recordings.
Emails.
Photographs.
Bank statements.
And one video.
The video showed Teresa sitting inside Victor’s office four months before Frederick’s birthday.
She placed my house deed information on the table.
Then she said clearly.
“Connor will never suspect me.”
Victor asked what would happen if Amy noticed.
My mother smiled.
“Then Connor will believe his wife betrayed him.”
Victor asked why she was so confident.
Teresa leaned back.
“Because sons forgive mothers.”
Then she laughed.
“They replace wives.”
I watched the video once.
