Chapter 1: The Performance Falls Apart

The moment the officers stepped inside, Doña Victoria collapsed into tears.

“She attacked me!” she cried, pointing at Elena with trembling fingers. “My poor son has been manipulated. She's mentally unstable. Those papers prove it.”

One of the officers glanced toward the neatly arranged documents.

The other noticed the glowing iron still resting on the kitchen table.

Captain Alejandro remained perfectly calm.

“Officer,” he said, “before anyone says another word, I'd like you to collect every document on this table as evidence.”

An officer carefully placed the forged medical evaluations, custody forms, and casualty notice into evidence bags.

Then Alejandro pointed toward a small security camera mounted above the pantry door.

“My wife installed that camera after valuables started disappearing from the house.”

Doña Victoria's face drained of color.

“I... I forgot about that camera.”

The footage was played directly from the memory card.

The kitchen fell silent.

There was no argument.

No missing context.

The recording clearly showed Doña Victoria heating the iron herself.

It showed her forcing Elena into the chair.

It showed her placing the burning iron inches from Elena's pregnant stomach.

And finally...

It captured every word.

“Sign over custody... or I'll burn both of you.”

The officer slowly turned off the video.

He looked directly at Doña Victoria.

“You are under arrest for attempted aggravated assault, criminal intimidation, and evidence fraud.”
