My father suddenly slammed both hands onto the table.
"You have no idea who you're dealing with!"
Adrian remained perfectly calm.
"I do."
He reached into his jacket and removed a final document.
"Six months ago, my investment group acquired your company's largest outstanding debt."
My father stared in disbelief.
"Impossible."
"It was perfectly legal."
Adrian continued.
"When the fraud investigation began, every lending agreement included a default clause."
Margaret nodded.
"This morning those clauses were activated."
The bank representatives who had quietly entered with the executives began collecting company records.
Phones rang throughout the ballroom.
Board members resigned.
Investors withdrew funding.
The empire my father had spent thirty years building collapsed in less than thirty minutes.
Vanessa burst into tears.
"You planned this wedding..."
Adrian looked at her.
"No."
"I planned accountability."
