Never judge someone by their clothes in a luxury store! The ultimate reality check.

Chapter 1: The Weight of Gold

The air inside the boutique turned ice-cold. Victoria’s booming, arrogant laughter died instantly in her throat, leaving her jaw hanging open. The tear of humiliation that had welled up in her eye tracked slowly through her heavy makeup. She stared blankly at Maya—the girl she had just ridiculed for wearing a basic black t-shirt and jeans—who was now casually inspecting a digital tablet handed over by the store manager.

"B-Boss?" Victoria stammered, her voice dropping an octave, stripping away all her previous theatrical confidence. "Thomas, you must be mistaken. This is Maya. We went to state college together. She lived on instant noodles."

Thomas, the store manager, didn't even look at Victoria. He kept his posture perfectly straight, adjusting his tie. "Ms. Maya is the founder and principal designer of Vanguard Luxury, Victoria. She owns this boutique, and the entire flagship line you are currently looking at."

Julian, the handsome man in the tuxedo accompanying Victoria, slowly let his hand slip away from Victoria's waist. His face burned with deep embarrassment. Julian wasn't just a wealthy date; he was a venture capitalist who had spent the last three months trying to secure a private meeting with the elusive owner of Vanguard Luxury to pitch a multi-million dollar distribution deal.

Maya looked up from her tablet, her calm brown eyes meeting Victoria’s frantic gaze. There was no anger in Maya's expression—just a profound, quiet pity. "People change, Victoria," Maya said softly, her tone entirely devoid of malice. "But it seems some people stay exactly where they were."
