Chapter 2: The Billionaire Loses Control

Anger replaced Julian's fear.
He rushed toward Emily, convinced one burst of violence would restore his control.
He never reached her.
Emily stepped aside with practiced precision.
His momentum carried him past her, and he stumbled across the polished floor before crashing into the edge of a leather sofa.
Before he could recover, she calmly picked up the syringe he had prepared for her.
She placed it inside a crystal vase where he could no longer reach it.
"You've spent your whole life believing power comes from money," she said.
"It doesn't."
"It comes from truth."
Julian pulled out his phone.
No signal.
He tried the emergency alarm hidden beneath the bedside table.
Nothing.
Emily held up a compact signal jammer.
"I disabled every private communication system in this penthouse."
His breathing became uneven.
"You've been pretending..."
"For two years."
"I learned your routines."
"Your habits."
"Your business associates."
"And every lie you've ever told."
Julian stared at her as though he were looking at a stranger.
Because he was.
The frightened woman he thought he had manipulated had never existed.
She had simply played the role perfectly.
Outside the penthouse, Detective Lawson received confirmation from the tactical team.
"Everyone in position."
She looked toward the elevator.

"Wait for my signal."
"We're ending this tonight."
