Chapter 3: The Empire Collapses

Julian rushed toward the bedroom.
Sophia didn't chase him.
She simply stepped aside.
The hotel security system had already locked the elevators under police authority.
Detective Olivia Grant entered first with investigators close behind.
"Julian Cole."
"We have a warrant to search these premises."
He forced a confident smile.
"This is absurd."
"My wife is mentally unstable."
Grant glanced toward Sophia.
She stood calmly beside the window.
"Mrs. Cole?"
"Would you like to make a statement?"
Sophia handed over the diamond necklace.
"The entire evening was recorded."
The forensic technician immediately connected the device.
Julian's own voice filled the suite.
"Tomorrow they'll believe my wife suffered a complete psychological breakdown."
Then another recording.
"After you're committed... I inherit everything."
No one spoke.
Grant looked at Julian.
"Anything you'd like to add?"
His attorney, who had arrived only minutes earlier, quietly placed a hand on Julian's shoulder.
"Don't answer."
Investigators continued searching the penthouse.
Inside a hidden safe they recovered forged psychiatric evaluations, falsified financial documents, and confidential files belonging to several former spouses and business partners.
The evidence reached far beyond one marriage.
By dawn, financial crime investigators had frozen corporate accounts linked to multiple fraudulent transactions.
Julian's board of directors held an emergency meeting before the markets opened.
At 8:15 a.m., he was unanimously removed as chief executive officer.
