Daniel stepped closer.
“Amelia, please.”
But his fear had already answered for him.
The guests began whispering.
“What is she talking about?”
“Why would he wait until after the birth?”
Amelia looked at her husband.
“You didn’t want to leave me immediately because you were afraid of losing something.”
Daniel said nothing.
“You wanted my father’s company shares.”
The entire room gasped.
The mistress looked at Daniel.
“You told me you were already getting them.”
Amelia turned toward her.
“Did he?”
The woman’s face changed.
Daniel immediately realized his mistake.
The truth was falling apart.
Months earlier, Daniel had discovered that Amelia’s family business would transfer a large inheritance to their child after birth.
If he stayed until the baby arrived, he could continue pretending to be the perfect husband.
Then after gaining control of the money…
He would leave.
But Amelia had found the documents.
She had seen the messages.
She knew everything.
“I wasn’t just your wife, Daniel.”
Her voice cracked.
“I was the person who believed in you when nobody else did.”
She wiped away a tear.
“I helped you build your career. I stood beside you when you had nothing.”
Daniel looked ashamed.
“Amelia, I made a mistake.”
She shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at him with sadness.
“You made a choice.”
The mistress quietly stepped away.
She realized she had never been loved either.
She had only been part of his plan.
Daniel reached for Amelia.
“Don’t do this. We can fix this.”
Amelia looked down at her wedding ring.
Then back at him.
“The woman you married would have stayed.”
A pause.
“But the woman standing here now knows her worth.”
She walked away.
Every step was painful.
But every step made her stronger.
