CHAPTER 2: THE TRUTH BURIED FOR TWENTY YEARS

The letter slipped from Isabella's trembling fingers.
The luxurious hotel lobby seemed to disappear around her as she stared into the little girl's tear-filled eyes. Every memory she had spent twenty years trying to forget came rushing back.
Twenty years earlier, Isabella had been a young woman deeply in love with a poor musician named Daniel. Their love had been fierce but forbidden. Isabella's wealthy family despised him and demanded she end the relationship.
When Isabella became pregnant, her parents reacted with fury.
"You will destroy this family's reputation," her father had said.
A few months later, Isabella was told that her newborn baby had died shortly after birth.
She never saw the child's body.
She never questioned the story.
The grief nearly destroyed her, but over time she buried the pain beneath wealth, success, and social status.
Now, standing before her was a little girl who looked exactly like the photographs Isabella kept hidden in her bedroom—the photographs of herself as a child.
The same eyes.
The same smile.
The same tiny birthmark near her left ear.
"My name is Valentina," the girl whispered.
Isabella fell to her knees.
The expensive gown pooled around her on the marble floor as tears streamed down her face.
"Who gave you this letter?" she asked.
"My grandma," Valentina answered. "She raised me. Before she died last week, she told me to find you."
The crowd watched in stunned silence.
For the first time in her life, Isabella no longer cared what anyone thought.

She wrapped her arms around the frightened child.
And Valentina hugged her back.
