CHAPTER 3: THE WOMAN WHO STOLE A LIFE

Three days later, Isabella traveled to a small village carrying nothing but the letter and a heart full of questions.
The address written at the bottom of the note led her to an elderly lawyer named Marco.
The old man had been a close friend of Valentina's grandmother.
When Isabella showed him the letter, his face grew pale.
"It is time you learned the truth," he said.
What he revealed shattered Isabella completely.
Her parents had lied.
The baby had never died.
After Valentina was born, Isabella's father secretly paid a doctor to falsify medical records. The newborn was taken away and handed to a poor widow who lived hundreds of miles away.
The widow, Elena, had recently lost her own child.
She agreed to raise Valentina and protect her from the powerful family that wanted her erased from existence.
For twenty years, Elena kept the secret.
She never accepted money.
She never asked for anything.
She simply loved the little girl as her own.
Before her death, Elena finally decided that Valentina deserved to know the truth.
Isabella sat frozen.
The people she had trusted most had stolen two decades from her.
Twenty years of birthdays.
Twenty years of first steps.
Twenty years of bedtime stories.
Gone forever.
That night, Isabella returned to her mansion and confronted her aging parents.
Neither denied what they had done.
Her mother broke down in tears.
Her father stared at the floor in shame.
"We thought we were protecting you," he whispered.
"No," Isabella replied.
"You were protecting your pride."
May you like
Then she walked away.
And for the first time in her life, she chose her daughter over her family's wealth and power.
