Chapter One: The Footage That Couldn't Lie

Marcus Thorne didn't move.
For one endless second, he simply stared.
His wife lay curled on the marble floor, both arms wrapped desperately around her swollen stomach. Blood stained the sleeve of her silver evening gown. Tiny shards of crystal glittered around her like broken ice.
Across the room, Isabella Rossi stood trembling on cue, tears already streaming down perfectly applied makeup.
"Marcus..." she whispered. "She lost control. She attacked me."
Marcus looked from Isabella's spotless dress to the shattered furniture surrounding Khloe.
None of it made sense.
Then Khloe cried out.
"Please... the baby..."
Everything else disappeared.
Marcus dropped to his knees beside her.
"Call emergency obstetrics!" he shouted toward the hallway. "Now!"
Doctors and nurses rushed into the suite.
One physician immediately examined Khloe while another checked the fetal monitor they had brought from the nearby maternity ward.
The room became a whirlwind of medical orders.
"We're losing blood pressure."
"Get the ultrasound."
"Prepare Operating Room Three."
Marcus never released Khloe's hand.
"I'm here," he whispered repeatedly.
"I'm so sorry..."
Khloe tried to speak, but another wave of pain stole her breath.
Just then, another man entered the room.
Unlike everyone else, he wasn't rushing.
He walked with absolute authority.
Silver hair.
Dark tailored suit.
Hospital identification around his neck.
Dr. Victor Bennett.
Chairman of the hospital board.
More importantly—
Khloe's uncle.
The moment he saw his niece lying on the floor, every trace of professional composure vanished.
"What happened?"
Nobody answered.
His eyes slowly shifted toward Isabella.
Then toward Marcus.
Finally toward the shattered crystal flute lying beside a designer high heel.
"I want security footage from every hallway, every elevator, and every camera surrounding this suite."
His voice was frighteningly calm.
"Immediately."
Isabella's heartbeat stopped.
Twenty minutes later, Khloe was stable enough to undergo emergency treatment while Marcus sat outside the operating room covered in her blood.
Dr. Bennett returned carrying a tablet.
"I think," he said quietly, "you need to see this before anyone speaks another word."
He pressed Play.
The recording began before Isabella entered the suite.
There was no audio at first.
Only video.
Khloe peacefully arranging charity documents.
Isabella bursting inside.
Finger pointed.
Aggressive posture.
Then the hospital microphone activated.
"You were supposed to stay quiet..."
Marcus felt cold.
The video continued.
Khloe asking Isabella to leave.
No threats.
No insults.
No violence.
Then—
The shove.
Khloe crashing into the marble table.
The deliberate kick aimed directly at her pregnant abdomen.
Marcus stopped breathing.
The recording showed everything.
There was no misunderstanding.
No mutual fight.
Only attempted murder.
When the video ended, Marcus slowly stood.
His expression no longer contained confusion.
Only absolute fury.
"Call the police."
Two detectives arrived before midnight.
Isabella was still insisting she had acted in self-defense.
Until Detective Sarah Collins quietly placed the tablet in front of her.
"Would you like to revise your statement?"
The color drained from Isabella's face as the footage played.
For the first time that evening...
She had nothing to say.
Handcuffs clicked around her wrists.
