Chapter Three: The Trial

The courtroom remained completely silent as prosecutors presented the hospital footage.
No dramatic speeches were necessary.
The video spoke for itself.
Jurors watched Isabella shove a pregnant woman.
Then deliberately kick her abdomen.
Several looked away.
Others shook their heads.
Even Isabella's own attorney understood the case had already been lost.
Still, Isabella testified.
"It wasn't intentional."
"I panicked."
"I loved Marcus."
The prosecutor simply displayed another exhibit.
Text messages.
Voice recordings.
Financial transfers.
Private diary entries recovered from Isabella's laptop.
One sentence echoed through the courtroom.
"If I can't marry him, neither she nor that baby will live to enjoy his fortune."
Silence.
The jury deliberated less than two hours.
Attempted murder.
Conspiracy.
Financial fraud.
Witness intimidation.
Guilty.
On every count.
When the sentence was announced, Isabella looked toward Marcus one final time.
He never looked back.
