Chapter 2 – The Woman Inside the Coffin

The room stopped breathing.

Another knock echoed from inside the shattered white coffin.

Tap.

Tap.

This time everyone heard it.

The funeral director stumbled backward, dropping the prayer book onto the marble floor.

The maid, Rosa Alvarez, grabbed the broken edge of the coffin with bleeding hands.

"Help me!" she cried.

Two security guards rushed forward.

Together they tore away the cracked lid.

Inside lay Evelyn Harrington.

Her eyes were closed.

Her skin was pale.

An oxygen-starved gasp escaped her lips as fresh air rushed into the coffin.

The paramedics attending the funeral immediately pushed through the crowd.

"She's alive!"

One of them checked her pulse.

"It's weak—but she's alive."

The room erupted into chaos.

Guests cried.

Someone called emergency services.

Others simply stared in horror.

Evelyn's husband, Richard Harrington, stood frozen.

His face had turned completely white.

"That's impossible," he whispered.

The lead paramedic looked at him sharply.

"Who declared her dead?"

No one answered.

As Evelyn was lifted onto the stretcher, her trembling hand reached into the air.

She barely had enough strength to whisper one word.

"Rosa..."

The maid burst into tears.

"I'm here, ma'am."

Evelyn's fingers tightened weakly around hers.

"He... knew..."

Before anyone could ask who she meant...

She lost consciousness again.

Every eye slowly turned toward Richard.
