Chapter 2: The Billionaire Arrives

Twenty minutes later, a black limousine stopped outside Oakridge Country Club.
Richard Sterling climbed out.
Six-foot-three.
Perfect tailored suit.
Silver hair.
One of Connecticut's richest developers.
The moment he entered the dining room, everyone stepped aside.
Victoria burst into fake tears.
"Daddy!"
She rushed into his arms.
"That waitress attacked me!"
Richard looked toward Claire.
Then toward Hank.
Then at the shattered glasses still scattered across the marble floor.
"What happened?"
Before anyone could answer, Victoria interrupted.
"She deliberately grabbed my purse, then these bikers threatened me!"
Richard slowly turned toward Harrison.
"Is that true?"
Harrison eagerly nodded.
"Exactly, Mr. Sterling."
Richard looked unconvinced.
"Show me the security footage."
Silence.
Harrison hesitated.
Victoria suddenly looked nervous.
"There isn't any need—"
"I said..."
Richard's voice became cold.
"Show me."
Minutes later everyone gathered around the manager's office monitor.
The recording played.
Every second.
Claire carefully balancing the tray.
The accidental brush against the purse.
Victoria standing.
Victoria screaming.
Victoria striking a six-month-pregnant waitress across the face without warning.
Not once did Claire touch the purse with her hands.
Not once did she argue.
Not once did she threaten anyone.
When the video ended...
Nobody spoke.
Richard Sterling closed his eyes.
Then slowly turned toward his daughter.
"You lied."
Victoria's confidence evaporated.
"Dad..."
"You lied to me."
"I was embarrassed—"
His voice thundered through the office.
"You assaulted a pregnant woman."
The room froze.
Then Richard surprised everyone.
He walked directly toward Claire.
Lowered his head.
And apologized.
"I cannot undo what my daughter has done."
"But I can promise you..."
"...she will answer for it."
Victoria looked horrified.
"Dad!"
Richard didn't even look at her.
May you like
"Be quiet."
It was the first time in her life anyone had ever told Victoria Sterling no.
