Chapter 2 – Sarah's Final Gift

The following day, Arthur and Daniel watched the complete video recovered from Sarah's memory card.
This time, forensic technicians restored the damaged ending.
Sarah appeared exhausted, wrapped in a blanket inside a small apartment.
Emma, only seven years old then, slept peacefully beside her.
"If you're seeing this," Sarah whispered, "I'm running out of time."
She explained everything.
Years earlier, after leaving home, she married a kind elementary school teacher named Michael Reed.
Neither of them cared about the Whitmore fortune.
They built a simple life instead.
When Michael died in a highway accident, Sarah struggled to support Emma alone.
That was when Vanessa appeared.
She claimed Arthur wanted reconciliation.
She promised to help.
Instead...
She secretly copied Sarah's legal documents, learned about the trust Arthur had created for Sarah's future children, and began pressuring Sarah to surrender custody of Emma.
Sarah refused.
Weeks later, she became mysteriously ill.
"I don't know what she's doing," Sarah said into the camera.
"But if anything happens to me..."
"Never let Vanessa raise my daughter."
The recording ended with Sarah placing the brass key into Emma's tiny hands.
Arthur lowered his head.
He had spent thirty years believing his daughter abandoned him.

She had spent her final months trying to protect his granddaughter.
