CHAPTER 2 — The Photograph That Buried a Dynasty

Christopher's hands shook as he pulled the photograph from the red envelope.
For several long seconds...
He couldn't breathe.
The woman smiling back at him was Rachel.
Emma's biological mother.
The woman everyone believed had died in a tragic car accident three years earlier.
Only this wasn't an ordinary photograph.
Rachel sat inside a dark warehouse, her wrists bound to a chair.
Standing beside her...
Was Estelle Pierce.
Christopher's own mother.
The back of the photo carried a handwritten note.
"She refused to surrender custody. We solved the problem."
Christopher felt the ground disappear beneath his feet.
Yvette slowly removed another item from the envelope.
A flash drive.
"I found it hidden beneath the false bottom of Mrs. Juliette's jewelry box," she whispered.
Christopher plugged it into his phone.
A video appeared.
Rachel looked directly into the camera.
If you're watching this...
...I'm probably gone.
She struggled to steady her breathing.
Estelle wants my daughter because the Pierce fortune legally belongs to Emma once Christopher acknowledges her.
She offered me money.
Then threats.
When neither worked...
she promised I would disappear.
Rachel held up Emma's birth certificate.
Christopher's signature appeared on the final page.
Not forged.
Real.
He remembered signing hospital paperwork after Emma's birth while promising Rachel he would tell his family the truth.
He never got the chance.
Rachel vanished the following week.
Police ruled it an accident.
Christopher had spent three years blaming himself for not protecting the woman he loved.
Now he knew.
It had never been an accident.
It had been murder.
He slowly looked toward the balcony.
The curtains moved again.
His mother was watching.
For the last time.
Christopher handed Emma to Yvette.
"Take her somewhere safe."
May you like
Then he turned toward the mansion.
"I'm ending this tonight."
