CHAPTER 3 — The Empire Built on Blood

Within an hour, the Pierce estate was surrounded.

Not by reporters.

Not by protesters.

By detectives from the Major Crimes Division.

Christopher had spent years building one of the nation's largest private security companies.

Every hallway.

Every office.

Every vault.

Every camera.

Nothing inside the mansion escaped his control anymore.

Estelle sat calmly inside the library, sipping tea as if nothing had happened.

"You've always been emotional," she said without looking up.

Christopher placed Rachel's photograph on the table.

Her hand stopped moving.

Only for a fraction of a second.

Then she smiled.

"So..."

"You finally know."

Christopher stared at her.

"Why?"

She answered without hesitation.

"Because families survive through power."

"Not sentiment."

"Rachel threatened everything your father spent his life building."

"And Emma?"

Christopher asked.

Estelle's expression remained cold.

"A child inherits only if she lives."

Silence filled the room.

Christopher pressed a button on his phone.

Hidden speakers throughout the library activated.

Everything Estelle had just admitted echoed through the house.

She looked toward the ceiling.

Too late.

Every detective heard every word.

The lead investigator stepped forward.

"Mrs. Pierce..."

"You are under arrest."

Estelle stood.

Straightened her jacket.

"I own judges."

"I own politicians."

"I own half this city."

The detective calmly produced another folder.

"You used to."

Federal agents entered behind him.

The flash drive contained far more than Rachel's recording.

Secret offshore accounts.

Bribery ledgers.

False charities laundering millions of dollars.

A network of shell companies hiding decades of financial crimes.

Juliette hadn't merely married into the family.

She had become Estelle's accomplice.

Both women were taken away in handcuffs.

Neither looked back.

Neither apologized.

For the first time in decades...

The Pierce mansion became completely silent.
