CHAPTER 3 — The Truth Hidden Inside the Mansion

The investigation began that very night.

Richard didn't hire outsiders.

He started with the people who had lived inside his own home.

The nanny spoke first.

Then the chef.

Then two gardeners.

One after another, the stories matched.

Elena constantly belittled Chloe whenever Richard traveled.

She threw away birthday cards Chloe made for her father.

She told the child Richard loved business more than family.

Sometimes she locked Chloe in her room for hours because she was "too loud."

Each statement cut deeper than the last.

Then Mary, the housekeeper, quietly handed Richard a small plastic storage box.

"I've been keeping these," she said.

Inside were dozens of handmade gifts.

Paper flowers.

Clay sculptures.

Birthday cards.

Father's Day crafts.

Christmas ornaments.

Every single one had been pulled from the trash after Elena threw them away.

Richard couldn't speak.

There were years of love inside that box.

Love his daughter believed he had rejected.

He spent the entire night looking through every drawing.

At sunrise, he walked into Chloe's bedroom.

She was still asleep, hugging a stuffed rabbit.

He sat beside her bed until she opened her eyes.

"Daddy?"

He smiled through tears.

"I owe you seven years of hugs."

She climbed into his lap.

Neither of them noticed the sunrise.

Meanwhile, downstairs...

Elena was being escorted into Richard's office.

She expected another argument.

Instead, Richard slid a folder across the desk.

Divorce papers.

Her smile vanished.

"You can't be serious."

"I've never been more serious."

"You'll ruin our reputation."

Richard looked at her without emotion.

"No."

"You ruined it the day you threw away a little girl's heart."

She reached for his arm.

He stepped back.

"The accounts in your name are frozen."

"The cars are no longer yours."

"You'll leave this estate today."

"And you'll never be alone with Chloe again."

For the first time...

Elena realized she had truly lost.

May you like

She left the mansion with only two suitcases.

Not one servant watched her leave.
