Chapter 1: The Fall That Exposed Everything

The ambulance doors slammed shut.
Harrison climbed inside before the paramedics could stop him.
"Eight months pregnant," one medic shouted. "Possible placental injury. Blood pressure dropping."
Khloe lay pale against the stretcher, her breathing shallow.
Her trembling hand searched blindly until it found Harrison's sleeve.
"Harry..."
"I'm here."
"Our daughter..."
He gently squeezed her fingers.
"Don't worry about anything else."
"I'll protect both of you."
The ambulance raced toward Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
Back at the courthouse, the marble staircase remained frozen like the scene of a nightmare.
Blood stained the white steps.
Vanessa stood motionless.
Richard hadn't moved either.
He kept staring at the place where his wife had fallen.
A detective approached quietly.
"Mr. Harrington."
"What happened?"
Vanessa answered immediately.
"She lost her balance."
The detective didn't respond.
Instead, he looked toward the courthouse entrance.
A security supervisor hurried outside carrying a portable hard drive.
"Officer..."
"The cameras recorded everything."
Vanessa's face instantly lost its color.
An hour later, detectives watched the footage.
Camera One showed Khloe standing near the top of the staircase.
She never touched Vanessa.
She never threatened anyone.
She simply held a folder against her pregnant stomach.
Camera Two captured Vanessa stepping closer.
Pointing her finger.
Shouting.
Then...
With both hands...
She shoved Khloe backward.
There was no accident.
No stumble.
No self-defense.
Only deliberate violence.
Richard slowly covered his face.
"Oh God..."
The detective stopped the video.
He looked directly at Vanessa.
"Would you like to change your statement?"
She remained silent.
At the hospital, surgeons fought to save both mother and child.
Hours passed.
Finally, the obstetrician walked into the waiting room.
Harrison stood immediately.
"Doctor?"
The physician smiled faintly.
"Your sister is alive."
"And so is her daughter."
The room exhaled together.
"But..."
"She'll need a long recovery."
Harrison nodded.
"She'll have all the time she needs."
Then he looked through the ICU window toward his unconscious sister.
His expression became perfectly calm.

The same calm every courtroom feared.
Richard Harrington had just made the biggest mistake of his life.
