Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Ball

Within minutes, hotel security arrived.

Victoria immediately pointed toward Sophia.

"Remove these people."

The chief of security didn't move.

Instead, he looked toward the hotel's general manager, who had just entered carrying a tablet.

"Ma'am..."

"We've reviewed the security footage."

Victoria rolled her eyes.

"Good."

"You'll see she caused a disturbance."

The manager pressed play.

Large screens that had moments earlier displayed photographs from the charity gala suddenly switched to live surveillance footage.

Every guest watched.

Victoria approached Lily.

She leaned down.

Called her "street trash."

Grabbed her arm.

Ignored the frightened child's attempts to pull away.

The footage showed everything.

No editing.

No missing moments.

When the video ended...

Silence settled over the ballroom.

Victoria's attorney quietly lowered his head.

One guest whispered,

"My God..."

Another shook his head in disbelief.

Victoria tried to recover.

"I was protecting the event."

"No," Sophia answered calmly.

"You were humiliating a child because you believed no one would stop you."

Then another voice echoed across the ballroom.

"She's right."

Everyone turned toward the stage.

It was Charles Sterling.

Victoria's husband.

Founder of the Sterling Foundation.

He looked devastated.

"For thirty-five years, we've built our family's reputation on compassion."

He slowly removed the foundation medal from his jacket.

"And tonight..."

"My own wife disgraced everything we claimed to represent."

Victoria stared at him.

"You can't be serious."

Charles looked at Lily.

Then at Sophia.

"I'm deeply sorry."

He bowed his head to the little girl.

The ballroom gasped.
