The silence inside Sterling Manor was heavier than the marble walls surrounding them.
Every guest stared at Olivia Reed.
The maid who had always walked quietly through the halls.

Daniel Sterling’s smile disappeared.
“Olivia…” he whispered.
She stood slowly, still holding Oliver in her arms. The little boy refused to let go. His tiny hands gripped her dress like he was afraid someone would take her away again.

“What is going on, Daniel?” Amelia asked.
Daniel looked around at the guests, desperate to control the situation.
“This is nothing. Oliver is confused.”

“No.”
Her voice was soft, but every person in the room heard it.
“He is not confused.”
Daniel’s eyes hardened.
“Not here.”
Olivia looked at him with years of pain hidden behind her tears.
“You told me you would protect him.”
The guests began whispering.

Daniel lowered his voice.
“Olivia, please. We can talk privately.”
She laughed bitterly.
“Privately? Like the last two years?”
Oliver touched Olivia’s face.
“Mommy sad?”
That single question broke something inside the room.
Olivia hugged him tighter.
“No, sweetheart. Mommy is okay.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
Two years ago, Olivia Reed was not a maid.

The woman who gave birth to Oliver.
But when Daniel’s father died and the Sterling empire was left in his hands, the board demanded one thing:
