Chapter 2: The Truth Daniel Tried To Bury

The party ended early.
The guests left Sterling Manor carrying a secret they could not wait to share.
Inside the library, Daniel stood facing Olivia.
Oliver sat on the sofa between them, holding a small toy car.
“Why did you bring him here tonight?” Olivia asked.
Daniel looked away.
“I wanted him to have a mother.”
Olivia’s eyes filled with disbelief.
“He already has one.”
Daniel sighed.
“You know what I mean.”
“No, Daniel. I know exactly what you mean.”
She stepped closer.
“You wanted someone acceptable.”
Daniel said nothing.
Because she was right.
“You think money can fix everything,” Olivia continued. “You think a bigger house, better clothes, and a beautiful wife can replace love.”
Daniel looked at Oliver.
For the first time, he noticed something.
Oliver was not looking at him.
He was looking at Olivia.
Waiting for her.
Trusting her.
Daniel’s voice became quiet.
“When my father died, I thought the company would collapse if I made the wrong choice.”
“And you chose the company over your family.”
The words hit harder than any accusation.
Daniel sat down.
“I thought I was protecting him.”
Olivia shook her head.
“You were protecting yourself.”
A long silence followed.
Then Oliver climbed onto Daniel’s lap.
Everyone expected Daniel to smile.
But instead, Oliver asked:
“Daddy… why did you hide Mommy?”
Daniel froze.
A two-year-old child had asked the one question he spent years avoiding.
His eyes filled with regret.
“I made a mistake, buddy.”
Oliver tilted his head.
“Bad mistake?”
Daniel swallowed.
“Yes.”
That night, Daniel finally admitted everything.
He told the truth to the Sterling board.
He told them Olivia was Oliver’s mother.
He told them he had lied.
And he told them he would not allow his family to be controlled by appearances anymore.
But one problem remained.
Daniel’s mother, Eleanor Sterling, had heard everything.
And she was furious.
“You destroyed the Sterling name for a maid?” she said.
Daniel looked at her.
“No.”
He looked at Olivia and Oliver.
“I saved my family.”
Eleanor smiled coldly.
“You think this is over?”
May you like
It wasn’t.
Because the next morning, the biggest secret of all was revealed.
