The words didn’t echo.
They settled.
Like something heavy dropping into a sealed room.
“Cancel his funding.”
The executive didn’t hesitate. He simply tapped his device once.
“Understood.”
Damian blinked hard. “You can’t just—do you even know who I am?”
Elena’s eyes lifted slowly.
“That’s the problem,” she said. “You thought that mattered.”
Veronica forced a laugh, but it cracked halfway through. “This is insane. She’s bluffing. Someone like her doesn’t control anything.”
The executive finally turned his head slightly.
“She doesn’t control something,” he said evenly.
A pause.
“She controls everything.”
The room shifted.
Not physically—but in the way people suddenly realize the floor beneath them is not as solid as they believed.
Damian took a step forward, voice rising. “You’re lying. This is some staged humiliation—”
Elena raised her hand again.
Not to silence him.
But to signal.
The executive spoke immediately.
“Asset lock initiated. All Moretti holdings under Damian Moretti are frozen.”
Damian stopped breathing.
His phone vibrated.
Once.
Twice.
Then nonstop.
Bank alerts. Corporate alerts. Legal freezes. Board notifications.
Veronica grabbed his arm. “What is happening?”
Damian didn’t answer.
Because for the first time in his life—
he didn’t know.
