CHAPTER 2 — THE HOUSE LOSES ITS OWNER

Outside, the city looked unchanged.
Inside the mansion, everything was collapsing quietly.
No alarms.
No chaos.
Just systems slowly refusing obedience.
Security protocols denied Damian access.
His private accounts detached from his identity like they had never belonged to him.
The staff avoided his eyes.
Not out of fear anymore.
Out of confirmation.
He wasn’t power.
He was former proximity to it.
Veronica’s voice broke as she whispered, “You told me she was nothing.”
Damian snapped back, desperate now. “She was NOTHING!”
Elena finally turned.
Her voice was calm enough to hurt.
“I was nothing,” she said. “Because I let you decide what I was.”
A pause.
“That was your only real power.”
The executive stepped closer, lowering his voice.
“Confirmation from the global board. All executive authority has been transferred. Resistance protocols active.”
Damian shook his head. “Board? There is no board that answers to her.”
Elena’s gaze sharpened slightly.
“There is when you built it,” she said.
A silence followed that line.
A deep, suffocating one.
Because Damian understood something then.
This wasn’t takeover.
This was recovery.
Something he had stolen years ago had finally found its way back.
Veronica backed away slowly. “Who… are you?”
Elena didn’t answer immediately.
She looked at the gold walls.
The silk curtains.
The polished floor that once reflected her humiliation.
Then she said:
“I was the one who signed the foundation you built your empire on.”
May you like
A pause.
“And the one you erased from the credits.”
