CHAPTER 1 — THE DAUGHTER WHO DISAPPEARED

The entire banquet hall remained frozen.

Nobody moved.

Nobody dared to breathe.

Colonel Vance stood in the center of the room, holding the old silver pendant in his hand like it was something priceless.

Victoria tried to laugh, but the sound came out weak.

“You’re making a mistake, Colonel. She’s just a nobody.”

Vance slowly turned toward her.

“A nobody?”

His voice was quiet.

But every person in the room felt the warning behind it.

“This pendant belonged to one of the most respected military families in the country.”

Maya stared at him in confusion.

“I… I don’t understand.”

Vance looked at her.

For the first time in decades, the cold investigator looked emotional.

“Where did you get this?”

Maya touched her broken necklace.

“It was the only thing I had when they found me as a child.”

Vance’s expression changed.

He reached into his jacket and pulled out an old photograph.

A young military officer stood beside a woman holding a baby.

The same pendant was around the baby’s neck.

Maya’s hands started shaking.

“That baby…”

Vance nodded slowly.

“That baby was you.”

The room erupted into whispers.

Daniel, Maya’s husband, finally stepped away from the bar.

“What are you saying?”

Vance looked at him.

“Your wife is not an orphan.”

He paused.

“She was believed to be the missing daughter of Commander Alexander Reed.”

Silence.

The name alone shocked everyone.

Commander Reed was a legendary military leader who disappeared twenty-five years ago during a classified mission.

Victoria’s face turned pale.

Because she knew exactly what that meant.
