Security locked the doors.

“This insignia was only given to one family.”
He looked directly at Victoria.
“The Reed family.”
Victoria stepped back.
“That’s impossible.”
Vance’s eyes narrowed.
“Is it?”
He pulled out a file.

Adoption documents.
Hidden reports.
A missing child investigation.
Daniel looked through the papers.
His hands trembled.
“My entire life… my family knew about this?”

Everyone looked at Victoria.
She became silent.

“You knew?”

“I was protecting this family.”
Daniel stared at her.
“You abandoned an innocent child’s identity just to protect your reputation?”
Victoria tried to defend herself.
“She was nobody when she came here!”

“No.”
He looked at Maya.
“She was someone. She always was.”
The room became silent again.
