Chapter 1: The Storm inside the House

The heavy silence that followed Police Chief Marcus Miller’s deep, commanding voice was louder than any shout. The cold, calculated fury radiating from him made the warm living room feel like a freezer.
The mother-in-law, Eleanor, stood frozen with the empty metal bucket in her hand, her mouth hanging open as she stared at the high-ranking officer. Her arrogant smirk was completely gone, replaced by a pale look of horror. Beside her, the husband, Ethan, began to tremble violently, his jaw slack as his eyes darted from the Chief's gold badges to his wife, Lily, who was shivering and soaking wet on the floor.
"C-Chief Miller..." Ethan stammered, his voice cracking as he instinctively took a step back. "This... this is a misunderstanding. She fell. We were just trying to—"
"Shut up," Marcus snapped, his calm tone far more terrifying than an outburst. He didn't even look at Ethan.
Marcus stepped past the terrified couple and knelt on the wet floor, his stern expression instantly softening into profound grief. He wrapped his heavy police coat around Lily's bruised, shivering shoulders, lifting her gently. Lily leaned into her father’s chest, her quiet tears finally flowing freely.

"I've got you, baby girl," Marcus whispered fiercely, his eyes narrowing as he looked back up at Eleanor and Ethan. "I gave you a chance to treat my daughter right. Instead, you treated her like garbage. You are both under arrest for domestic abuse, assault, and endangerment."
Three heavily armed officers stepped into the room from the open doorway, handcuffs instantly clicking into place.
