Chapter 1: The Video That Changed Everything

The ballroom remained silent.
No one spoke.
No one even reached for another glass of champagne.
The older man—Harold Whitmore, patriarch of the Whitmore family—held the child's phone with both hands as the security video continued to play.
Every eye in the room followed the screen.
The recording showed the maid, Clara, polishing the grand piano before the gala.
A few minutes later, she walked into the kitchen.
She never entered the master suite where the diamond necklace had supposedly disappeared.
Then another figure appeared.
Nathan.
Harold's oldest grandson.
He quietly unlocked the bedroom door.
He removed the velvet jewelry box from the safe.
Instead of taking the necklace away, he slipped it into the lining of his own tuxedo jacket before calmly locking everything again.
The timestamp left no room for doubt.
The ballroom erupted into whispers.
"He framed her..."
"My God..."
"I can't believe it."
Nathan's face turned pale.
"It's not what it looks like."
Harold slowly lowered the phone.
"It looks exactly like theft."
The police officers who had already been called for the alleged theft exchanged a brief glance.
One of them stepped toward Nathan.
"Sir, we'd like you to remain here."
For the first time that evening, Clara stood a little taller.
May you like
She hadn't needed to prove her innocence.
The truth had done it for her.
