CHAPTER 3 — THE CHOICE OF A FATHER
The following morning, the Pierce family board convened.
Directors, attorneys, and trustees filled the conference room.
Christopher stood at the head of the table.
"My daughter will never again be treated as a secret."
He placed Emma's birth certificate beside the will.
"Effective today, I publicly acknowledge Emma Pierce as my daughter and legal heir."
Quiet murmurs spread through the room.
Christopher continued.
"I spent years hiding the truth because I believed it would protect her."
"I was wrong."
"It only protected those who wanted to control her."
He turned toward the trustees.
"I am establishing an independent trust for Emma."
"It cannot be altered, transferred, or influenced by any member of this family."
One trustee nodded.
"It will be managed under court supervision until she reaches adulthood."
Christopher then faced the directors.
"As for Juliette and Estelle..."
"The evidence has been turned over to the proper authorities."
"I will not interfere with any investigation."
No shouting followed.
No dramatic arguments.
Only consequences.
The board voted unanimously to remove Estelle from every leadership position within the family's charitable foundation.
Christopher signed the final resolution without hesitation.
