Chapter 4 – A Different Legacy

One year later, Sophie stood in front of another ballroom.
This time, she wasn't afraid.
She wore a pale blue dress and held a small violin beneath her chin.
The audience rose in applause after her first solo performance.
I watched from the front row beside my father.
He never missed one of her recitals anymore.
After the concert, Sophie climbed onto his lap.
"Grandpa?"
"Yes, sweetheart?"
"Why do cameras matter so much?"
Richard smiled sadly.
"They don't create the truth."
"They simply refuse to look away."
Later that evening, we walked past the Whitmore Hotel.
The same entrance.
The same crystal chandeliers.
The same security camera still blinking quietly above the doors.
Sophie looked up at it.
"That little red light saved me."
I squeezed her hand.
"No."
"You saved yourself the moment you kept telling the truth."
She smiled.
The scar near her hairline had almost disappeared.
The invisible ones were healing too.
As we walked into the night together, I finally understood something my parents had learned too late.
A family's reputation isn't protected by hiding the truth.
It's protected by having the courage to face it.

And sometimes...
Justice begins with nothing more than a little red light that never blinks.
