DOJ Charges 14 People in Major Migrant Smuggling Network; Multiple Arrests Made

The U.S. Department of Justice has announced criminal charges against 14 individuals accused of participating in a large-scale human smuggling operation that allegedly transported hundreds of undocumented migrants into the United States. Authorities confirmed that eight of the suspects have already been arrested.

According to federal officials, a grand jury in Las Cruces, New Mexico, returned an indictment accusing the defendants of conspiring to bring, transport, and harbor undocumented migrants inside the United States. Investigators say the operation was part of an organized smuggling network that moved people across the southern border and through several states.

Justice Department officials stated that the alleged smuggling organization operated primarily out of Mexico and was responsible for transporting migrants—including unaccompanied minors—through New Mexico and South Texas.
