Julian's expression hardened.
"What did you just say?"
Emily stood.
Her timid posture disappeared.
The frightened country girl vanished as though she had never existed.
She stood straight, shoulders relaxed, eyes steady.
Julian took one step backward without realizing it.
"You've been acting," he whispered.
"For two years," Emily replied.
"You spent that time trying to break me."
"I spent it learning everything about you."
She reached into her bouquet and removed a compact signal jammer.
With one click, every security camera connected to Julian's private network went dark.
Every automatic lock disengaged.
Every alarm system shut down.
Julian rushed toward the bedroom door.
It wouldn't open.
Emily shook her head.
"You designed this penthouse to keep people trapped."
"I simply learned how it works."
Julian grabbed his phone.
No signal.
His confidence began to crack.
"You planned all of this?"
"My sister disappeared after marrying one of your business partners."
Emily's voice remained calm.
"They called her unstable."
"They stole her company."
"And six months later..."
"They buried her."
Julian's eyes widened.
"You..."
"I joined the police task force investigating your network."
"I let you believe I was exactly the woman you wanted."
Outside the building, Detective Lawson received one final transmission.
