Chapter 1: Harrison's First Move

Harrison leaned forward, folding his hands across the polished walnut desk.
"What you're going to do," he said calmly, "is absolutely nothing."
Khloe stared at him.
"What?"
"You will smile. You will go home. You will pretend you know nothing."
She shook her head.
"He wants to destroy me."
"No," Harrison corrected. "He thinks he already has."
He slid a leather folder across the desk.
Inside were emergency bank documents, trust agreements, temporary custody petitions, and medical directives.
"I've already filed an emergency injunction to freeze every marital asset he hasn't managed to hide."
Khloe blinked.
"You already—"
"I started while you were driving here."
For the first time that night, Harrison's voice softened.
"You're my little sister."
He reached across the desk and covered her trembling hand.
"I couldn't stop your miscarriages."
His jaw tightened.
"But I can stop this."
The next six weeks became a performance.
Khloe returned to the Lower Merion mansion as though nothing had happened.
She thanked Richard for dinner.
She smiled during charity galas.
She let Vanessa believe she was still the naïve wife everyone underestimated.
Meanwhile, Harrison built a case.
Private investigators followed Richard across three states.
Forensic accountants reconstructed every hidden transfer.
A cybersecurity firm recovered deleted messages from cloud backups Richard believed were gone forever.
One discovery changed everything.
The offshore accounts weren't merely intended to hide assets during a divorce.
They contained money stolen from investors inside Harrington Commercial Group.
Millions.
Some from pension funds.
Some from retirement accounts.
Some from affordable housing developments that had never been built.
Richard wasn't simply cheating on his wife.
He was committing federal fraud.
Harrison closed the file.
"This isn't a divorce anymore."
His investigator nodded.
"It's a criminal enterprise."
Meanwhile, Richard grew impatient.
One evening he walked into the nursery Khloe had spent months decorating.
He barely glanced at the pale pink walls.
"You've been emotional lately."
Khloe forced herself to smile.
"I suppose pregnancy does that."
He stepped closer.
"I've been thinking."
His voice sounded almost gentle.
"Maybe after the baby comes...we should spend some time apart."
Khloe lowered her eyes.
Exactly what Harrison predicted.
Richard believed she would beg.
Instead she quietly answered,
"If that's what makes you happy."
For the first time, uncertainty flickered across his face.
He had expected tears.
He had prepared for desperation.
He wasn't prepared for peace.
Two days later, Vanessa made her move.
She appeared outside Khloe's prenatal appointment wearing designer sunglasses and an expensive white coat.
"You should stop pretending."
Khloe continued walking.
Vanessa laughed.
"Richard already picked our baby's nursery."
She stepped closer.
"He just hasn't told you yet."
Khloe looked directly into her eyes.
"I know."
Vanessa's smile faltered.
"I know everything."
Then Khloe walked away.
For the first time in two years...
Vanessa looked afraid.
That same night, Harrison received a call from the lead investigator.
"We have something."
"What?"
"The courthouse security schedule."
Harrison frowned.
"What about it?"
"There have been repeated requests for camera blind spots around next week's divorce filing."
Silence filled the office.
Then Harrison slowly stood.
"They're planning something."
He immediately called Khloe.
"Do not go anywhere alone."
"Harry?"
"They're done stealing."
May you like
His voice turned deadly calm.
"Now they're preparing to eliminate the only witness."
