Chapter 4: A New Beginning

Nearly one year later...

Little Amelia Cole Harrington chased butterflies across Harrison's backyard.

She had inherited Khloe's bright blue eyes.

And her mother's stubborn determination.

The scars across Khloe's abdomen remained.

Some mornings they still ached.

But every time Amelia laughed...

They reminded Khloe that survival had been worth every painful second.

She never returned to the mansion.

The property had been sold during bankruptcy proceedings.

Instead, she bought a modest historic home overlooking a small Pennsylvania lake.

No servants.

No marble halls.

No lies.

Just peace.

She returned to architecture, opening a boutique design studio specializing in affordable family housing.

The same type of projects Richard had stolen from.

Only this time...

Families actually received homes.

One afternoon Harrison visited carrying two cups of coffee.

Amelia immediately ran into his arms.

"Uncle Harry!"

He laughed.

"There she is."

Khloe smiled from the porch.

"I think she loves you more than me."

"Impossible."

He looked at his niece.

"But I'll happily let her pretend."

For the first time in years...

Neither of them mentioned Richard.

Some people no longer deserved space in their lives.
