Chapter 2: The Day Everything Collapsed

The morning of the divorce hearing arrived beneath gray Pennsylvania skies.

Reporters crowded outside Montgomery County Courthouse.

Investors waited inside.

Richard adjusted his tailored suit before stepping through the courthouse entrance beside Vanessa.

They looked like a couple celebrating victory.

Khloe arrived alone.

Or so everyone believed.

Hidden among the crowd were Harrison's investigators.

Federal financial agents.

Two homicide detectives.

And six courthouse security officers quietly following Harrison's instructions.

Richard smiled.

"You finally accepted reality."

Khloe answered with remarkable calm.

"I accepted the truth."

The hearing lasted less than twenty minutes before the judge ordered mediation.

Outside the courtroom, Richard cornered Khloe near the staircase.

"You could still sign quietly."

Vanessa crossed her arms.

"Save everyone the embarrassment."

Khloe looked at both of them.

"I'm not signing anything."

Richard's smile disappeared.

"You've always made everything difficult."

Then someone shouted from the crowd.

A camera flashed.

Vanessa lost control.

She shoved Khloe with both hands.

The world froze.

Thirty marble steps.

One terrified scream.

Then blood.

Exactly as every witness later described.

By the time Harrison reached his sister, the ambulance had already been called.

Doctors fought to stabilize both mother and child.

Khloe disappeared into emergency surgery.

Harrison remained standing in the operating room hallway.

His suit was stained with his sister's blood.

A detective approached carefully.

"We've arrested Vanessa."

Harrison nodded once.

"What about Richard?"

"Claims it was an accident."

Harrison looked through the operating room window.

"No."

His voice was colder than steel.

"It was attempted murder."

Four hours later, the surgeon finally emerged.

"The baby is alive."

Harrison closed his eyes.

"And Khloe?"

"She lost a great deal of blood."

The surgeon smiled gently.

"But she's going to survive."

For the first time that day...

Harrison allowed himself to breathe.

Unfortunately for Richard...

Survival was the one outcome he had feared most.

May you like

Because Khloe could still testify.

And Harrison had only just begun.
