Three months later, the courthouse overflowed with reporters.
The case had spread across every major news station.
Inside the courtroom, Javier maintained that everything had been "a misunderstanding."
The evidence disagreed.
The audio recording.
The hallway surveillance.
Medical reports.
Witness testimony from hotel staff.
Even the unsigned condo transfer itself.
The prosecutor held it before the jury.
"This document explains motive."
"Mrs. Navarro was pressured to surrender property worth nearly one million dollars only hours after her wedding."
Then Sofia took the witness stand.
She wore a simple navy-blue suit instead of the expensive wedding gown she never wanted to see again.
"I thought I was marrying a man," she said quietly.
"I discovered I was marrying a plan."
The courtroom remained silent.
"I wasn't their daughter-in-law."
"I was their investment."
Javier couldn't meet her eyes.
After two days of testimony, the verdict arrived.
Javier was convicted for his role in the coercion and assault.
Carmen was convicted for conspiracy, intimidation, and attempted fraud related to the forced property transfer.
The unsigned document they had once considered a mere formality became one of the strongest pieces of evidence against them.
As deputies led them away, Carmen shouted across the courtroom.
"You've destroyed this family!"
Alexander answered without raising his voice.
