Sunlight filled the nursery.
Owen laughed as Ethan lifted him high into the air.
Hannah watched from the rocking chair, healthier than she had been in months.

Patricia's case eventually concluded in court. The evidence, including the medical documentation and home security recordings, established that Hannah had been physically mistreated while recovering from childbirth. The court issued protective orders, ensuring Patricia could have no unsupervised contact with Hannah or Owen.
One spring afternoon, Dr. Grant stopped by a community event for new parents.
She smiled when she saw Hannah carrying Owen.
"You both look wonderful."
Hannah smiled back.
"Thank you."
"You believed me when I couldn't believe myself."
The doctor shook her head gently.
"I simply listened."
That evening, Ethan placed a small wooden plaque above Owen's crib.
It read:
"A safe home begins with people who choose kindness over control."
Hannah rested her head on Ethan's shoulder as Owen drifted peacefully to sleep.
For the first time since becoming parents, neither of them felt afraid of tomorrow.
