Chapter 3 – Brenda's Last Gamble

The following morning, Brenda arrived at the house with confidence.
She expected Marcus to cool off overnight.
Instead, two movers stood in the driveway.
A locksmith was replacing every exterior lock.
The neighborhood security manager approached her.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Collins."
"What is this nonsense?"
"We've received written instructions from the homeowner."
"I am family."
"Yes."
"But you are no longer an authorized resident."
Brenda's smile disappeared.
Rachel stormed outside carrying expensive shopping bags.
"This is illegal!"
One of the movers quietly handed her a printed document.
Court-certified notice.
Temporary trespass warning.
Removal deadline.
Rachel looked at Marcus.
"You'd really do this to your own mother?"
Marcus folded his arms.
"You watched my pregnant wife cry while she cooked meals for you."
"You watched my daughter become seriously ill."
"You called yourselves guests."
"But guests don't treat family like servants."
Brenda tried one final weapon.
"I'll tell everyone you're abandoning your mother."
Marcus nodded.
"Tell them everything."
"Especially the hospital reports."

Neither woman spoke again.
Within an hour, they were gone.
