Chapter 4 – The Family Meeting

Three days later, Marcus invited every close relative to his office.
His uncles.
His cousins.
His late father's attorney.
Even Brenda came, convinced this meeting would force Marcus to apologize.
Instead, the conference room projector lit up.
Hospital records.
Medical reports.
Security footage from inside the house.
Video timestamps.
Brenda sleeping while Maya carried groceries.
Rachel ordering food delivery while Maya scrubbed dishes.
Lily coughing uncontrollably while cartoons played in the background.
No narration was necessary.
The room remained completely silent.
Marcus finally stood.
"I asked my family for kindness."
"I received neglect."
"I trusted the people who raised me."
"They endangered the people I love."
His father's attorney slowly removed his glasses.
"I've reviewed everything."
He turned toward Brenda.
"Richard would be ashamed."
The words landed harder than any courtroom verdict.
Brenda burst into tears.

But this time...
No one comforted her.
