Ilhan Omar Back in the Spotlight as Political Debate Intensifies in Washington

Minneapolis Immigration Operation Sparks Political Clash as Ilhan Omar Condemns Federal Presence

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Representative Ilhan Omar (D–MN) has sharply intensified her criticism of the Trump administration’s domestic immigration enforcement strategy, describing the situation in Minneapolis as an “occupation” by federal agents. Speaking to local residents and national media, Omar urged that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem either resign immediately or face impeachment over the ongoing operations.

Claims of a Federal “Occupation”

Omar’s criticism focuses on Operation Metro Surge, a federal initiative designed to locate and arrest undocumented immigrants who have criminal convictions. While federal officials describe the program as a targeted law-enforcement effort, Omar argues that its presence has expanded beyond its original scope and is now creating fear across communities.

According to Omar, the increased number of federal agents in certain areas has disrupted everyday life. She said some schools have reported significant drops in attendance, claiming that many families are afraid to send their children to class because of nearby enforcement activity.

Omar also alleged that some residents are avoiding hospitals and clinics after reports that immigration agents were seen near medical facilities.
