Chapter 2 – The Meeting He Never Expected

Adrian was halfway through a celebration dinner when his phone rang.
"The Chairman requests your immediate presence."
He smiled confidently.
"My father-in-law can wait."
The caller answered quietly.
"No, sir."
"He said you cannot."
Something about the voice unsettled him.
Forty-five minutes later, Adrian entered Sterling Tower's executive boardroom.
Every director was already seated.
Arthur Sterling sat alone at the head of the table.
No greeting.
No handshake.
Only silence.
Adrian forced a smile.
"Sir, I heard Clare exaggerated a misunderstanding."
Arthur slid a tablet across the polished table.
Security footage played automatically.
Adrian shoving me into a marble table.
Breaking the crystal vase.
Grabbing my wrist.
Leaving me bleeding on the floor before walking away.
The room became painfully quiet.
Arthur finally spoke.
"Do you deny what everyone just watched?"
Adrian stared at the screen.
His confidence disappeared.
"It wasn't..."
"It wasn't supposed to look like that."
Arthur's voice remained calm.
"It looked exactly like what it was."
Then another file appeared.
Financial reports.
Hidden transfers.
Luxury apartments purchased through shell companies.
Corporate funds diverted into private accounts.

Arthur had not only investigated the assault.
He had investigated everything.
