Chapter 14 - THE LAST CONTROLLER

Federal Prosecutor Calvin Shaw sealed the command center before Arthur could return.
He claimed Mara and Arthur had corrupted evidence and ordered their arrest.
But Elena’s archive had already reached the public.
Victims appeared on television. Former employees came forward. Judges began resigning. Banks froze accounts. The network that had survived through silence was choking on attention.
Arthur entered the courthouse through a maintenance tunnel he had once helped design for witness extraction.
Lily stayed with Mara at the hospital, broadcasting a live statement from her phone.
“My husband hurt me,” she told the camera. “His family tried to label me unstable so they could steal my property. I stayed quiet because I was ashamed. I am not ashamed anymore.”
Millions watched.
Inside the courthouse, Arthur found Shaw in the evidence room loading the surviving ledger into a shredder.
“Step away,” Arthur said.
Shaw turned with a gun in his hand.
“You always were sentimental,” he said. “Elena. Lily. The victims. You let people make you weak.”
“No. They remind me what strength is for.”
Shaw fired.
Arthur dove behind a steel cabinet. The bullet struck the lockbox containing Elena’s files.
Shaw ran for the stairwell.
Arthur chased him through dark corridors and into the main courtroom, where reporters had gathered for an emergency hearing.
Shaw grabbed a court clerk and pressed the gun to her neck.
“Back away!”
Cameras turned toward him.
For the first time, the man who controlled stories could not control the room.
Arthur lowered his weapon.
“Let her go.”
“You think you won because the public saw a few files?” Shaw shouted. “People forget.”
Lily’s voice suddenly played through every reporter’s phone.
“No,” she said from the livestream. “People forget secrets. They don’t forget proof.”
The courtroom screens filled with the payment ledger, Elena’s videos, and Shaw’s authorization records.
The clerk drove her heel into Shaw’s foot and ducked.
Arthur crossed the room and disarmed him.
Shaw hit the floor as federal marshals rushed in.
The cameras captured every second.
Hours later, Arthur stood alone in the empty courtroom.
Lily called him.
“Dad, Richard wants to see us before he enters his plea.”
Arthur looked at Elena’s final video still glowing on the evidence screen.

The network had fallen.
But his daughter still had one last prison to walk into.
