One week later, Vale Meridian’s shareholders gathered for the most important vote in company history.
Helena stood at the center of the auditorium.
Behind her, a screen displayed declining profits, hidden debts, offshore transfers, and false growth projections.
For years, Adrian had presented himself as a visionary.
In reality, Helena had negotiated the partnerships, stabilized the finances, and prevented three bankruptcies.
She had remained invisible because Adrian insisted investors trusted a “strong male founder.”
Helena had allowed the illusion to continue.
Until now.
“We are not here to punish one man,” she told the shareholders. “We are here to decide whether this company deserves to survive.”
Adrian sat in the front row with his attorneys.
When given the opportunity to speak, he approached the microphone.
“This company bears my family’s name.”
Helena answered from the stage.
“A name is not a business model.”
Scattered laughter moved through the room.
Adrian’s expression hardened.
“You think they’ll follow you? You hid behind contracts for years.”
“I hid to protect the company from your pride.”
“You’re destroying thousands of jobs.”
“No,” Helena replied. “I’m separating thousands of employees from the man who endangered them.”
The vote proceeded.
Adrian was removed permanently as chief executive.
Evelyn lost her honorary board position.
All related consulting contracts were terminated.
Helena was appointed interim chairwoman.
The decision passed with ninety-one percent approval.
Adrian remained seated after everyone else stood.
The company logo behind the stage changed.
VALE MERIDIAN faded from the screen.
In its place appeared a new name.
MERIDIAN NORTH.
Adrian looked up.
“You erased my family.”
Helena stepped down from the stage.
“No.”
She stopped beside him.
“I removed your name from something you never built alone.”
Outside, employees filled the lobby.
Helena expected suspicion.
Instead, they applauded.
Some had worked late nights beside her.
Some remembered the contracts she saved.
Some knew she had always been the person solving problems after Adrian left.
For the first time, she did not stand behind him.
