Chapter 3: The Courtroom

Nearly a year later, the courtroom remained remarkably still as both sides presented their cases.

Medical records documented my injuries.

Experts authenticated the encrypted audio recording.

Financial specialists explained the suspicious company payments.

The proceedings were long and detailed.

No single piece of evidence decided the outcome.

Together, they painted a consistent picture.

When I testified, I answered every question calmly.

"I stayed longer than I should have because I believed things might change."

"They didn't."

"I finally understood that protecting the truth mattered more than protecting appearances."

The judge listened carefully.

So did the jury.

Weeks later, verdicts were returned on the charges supported by the evidence.

Civil judgments followed regarding the financial misconduct uncovered during the investigation.

Outside the courthouse, reporters gathered beneath the afternoon sun.

One asked whether I felt victorious.

I shook my head.

May you like

"No."

"I feel free."
