Pentagon Unveils First Footage and Images of Strikes on Iran

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Defense has released the first official images and video footage of American military strikes targeting Iran as the conflict enters its third day. The campaign, referred to as Operation Epic Fury, has already resulted in the deaths of four U.S. service members, while more than a dozen others have been injured.

Speaking to reporters early Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth outlined the primary objectives of the military operation. Standing beside Dan Caine, Hegseth said the mission is focused on eliminating Iran’s missile capabilities and preventing the country from advancing its nuclear ambitions.

“Our objective is clear,” Hegseth explained. “We intend to destroy Iran’s missile systems, dismantle their missile production facilities, and weaken the naval and security infrastructure that supports those capabilities. Without those resources, Iran will not be able to pursue nuclear weapons.”

Hegseth did not provide a specific timeline for the operation but emphasized that it would not turn into an open-ended military conflict similar to previous wars in the Middle East.

“This is not Iraq,” he said. “It will not be endless. Our generation understands the consequences of prolonged nation-building wars. This operation is different — it is focused, decisive, and designed to remove a direct threat.”

The defense secretary also confirmed that there are currently no U.S. ground forces deployed inside Iran, though he declined to discuss whether that might change as the situation evolves.

General Caine added that military officials are still assessing the effectiveness of the strikes.

“It will take time to complete a full battle damage assessment,” he said. “U.S. Central Command will continue reviewing the targets and adjusting operations based on the results.”

Regional Casualties Rise

The escalating conflict has already led to significant casualties throughout the region. Israeli authorities reported that at least 11 people have been killed in Israel, while the Iranian Red Crescent Society stated that more than 500 people have died in Iran since the fighting intensified.

U.S. Accuses Iran of Escalation

During the briefing, Hegseth argued that Iran’s nuclear ambitions and actions in international waters contributed to the confrontation.
