Chapter 8 - SCARLETT’S WARNING
Scarlett’s attorney insisted the message was not a threat.
He claimed she had information about an immediate danger.
Noah agreed to meet her only after police secured the hospital.
The interview took place through reinforced glass.
Scarlett appeared tired but not remorseful.
Noah remained standing.
“Why did you attack Mia?”
Scarlett looked at the camera in the corner.
“I already told the police.”
“She threatened me.”
“The foyer footage proves otherwise.”
Her eyes hardened.
“Then why are you here?”
“Because you said my family is in danger.”
Scarlett leaned closer to the glass.
“Victor believes the foundation evidence still exists.”
“It does.”
She flinched.
Noah noticed.
“You don’t know where it is.”
“No.”
“But Victor knows Mia mailed something.”
“How?”
“Her office phone was monitored.”
Noah felt sick.
“How long?”
“Six months.”
“You listened to private calls inside my house?”
“Victor did.”
“You helped him.”
Scarlett looked away.
“I thought we were protecting the company.”
“By stealing fourteen million dollars?”
“It wasn’t theft.”
“It financed political favors, foreign permits, and acquisitions.”
“Those payments kept Vale International alive.”
“They enriched Victor.”
Scarlett’s composure cracked.
“You don’t understand.”
“Your father understood.”
“That’s why he died.”
The room became silent.
Noah stepped toward the glass.
“Say that again.”
Scarlett’s eyes filled with fear.
“Victor arranged the plane failure.”
“You knew?”
“Not until last year.”
“And you stayed silent.”
“He had evidence against me.”
“What evidence?”
Scarlett hesitated.
“I signed the transfers.”
“He told me they were legal consulting fees.”
“Then he showed me documents that made it look as if I had created the entire scheme.”
“You could have come to me.”
“You always chose Mia.”
Noah stared at her.
“This is not about Mia.”
“It has always been about Mia.”
Scarlett’s voice rose.
“Before she came, you trusted me.”
“You listened to me.”
“I was supposed to become chief operating officer.”
“Then she started asking questions.”
“She looked at me like she could see every lie.”
“So you tried to kill her?”
“I wanted to frighten her.”
“You pushed a pregnant woman onto marble.”
Scarlett pressed both hands against the glass.
“I lost control.”
“No.”
“You waited until the foyer was empty.”
“You disabled cameras.”
“You stole her credentials.”
“You planned everything.”
Scarlett began crying.
Noah felt nothing.
“Where is Victor?”
“I don’t know.”
“What is happening within forty-eight hours?”
Scarlett wiped her face.
“The board is voting on an emergency transfer of power.”
