Chapter 5: The Roses Bloom Again

One year later, the Saint Aurelia Ballroom hosted another wedding.

The chandeliers still shimmered.

The marble floors still reflected every light.

But one thing had changed.

Near the entrance stood a small bronze memorial.

In Honor of Caroline Mercer,
Whose Courage Outlived the Lies.

The Mercer family no longer owned the ballroom.

Part of the proceeds from the sale had funded burn recovery programs and housing for elderly fire survivors.

Lillian attended the ceremony as an honored guest.

She placed a single white rose beneath the memorial before taking her seat.

As the new bride walked down the aisle, sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, filling the room with warmth instead of shadows.

Some guests remembered the scandal that had unfolded there.

Others knew only that the ballroom carried an unusual sense of peace.

Truth had arrived late.

Justice had taken years.

But neither had been forgotten.

Because secrets can survive for a season.

Lies can survive for a generation.

Yet the truth has a remarkable way of waiting patiently until the world is finally ready to hear it.

The End.
