Outside, snow continued falling.
Lily sat beside the fireplace wrapped in blankets.
Ethan knelt beside her.
"I'm sorry."
She looked confused.
"For what?"
"For bringing someone into our lives who hurt you."
Lily touched his face.
"You didn't know."
Those simple words nearly broke him.
Children forgave so easily.
Adults rarely deserved it.
