Chapter 1 – The Truth on Camera

The mansion was silent except for Emily's trembling breaths.

Daniel Carter knelt beside his wife, carefully lifting her into his arms as though she were made of glass.

"You're safe," he whispered.

"I'm here."

Emily clung to his jacket, her entire body shaking.

Across the room, Victoria Ashcroft straightened her designer dress and forced tears into her eyes.

"Daniel, she's pretending!" she cried. "She attacked me when I tried to help her."

Daniel didn't even look at her.

Instead, he noticed the swelling around Emily's wrist.

The fresh bruise across her shoulder.

The faint red mark where a gold stiletto heel had pressed into her hand.

His jaw tightened.

"Call an ambulance."

The housekeeper hurried toward the phone.

Victoria stepped forward.

"You don't need an ambulance. She's being dramatic."

Daniel slowly stood.

His voice was calm.

"Bring me the security footage."

Victoria froze.

"There... there isn't any."

Daniel's eyes narrowed.

"I installed a new cloud-based security system last month."

"I can access every camera from my phone."

He unlocked the device.

Within seconds, the living room television came to life.

The recording began.

Everyone watched in complete silence.

Emily quietly asking Victoria to stop arguing.

Victoria shoving her to the floor.

Emily protecting her stomach.

Then—

Victoria deliberately pressing the sharp heel of her shoe onto Emily's hand while smiling.

The room became so quiet that the ticking of the grandfather clock echoed through the mansion.

Victoria's face turned white.

For the first time, she had nowhere to hide.
