Chapter 4 – A Mother They Should Never Have Underestimated

"You've made a terrible mistake," Gregory muttered.

The mother smiled for the first time.

"No."

"You did."

She reached into her handbag and removed a leather identification wallet.

The room grew silent again.

Special Prosecutor Eleanor Hayes.

Director of the State Child Protection Task Force.

The detectives standing near the entrance immediately recognized the badge.

Their posture changed instantly.

One detective walked directly toward Gregory.

"Mr. Whitmore..."

"We'll need you to remain here."

Gregory laughed nervously.

"You can't arrest me over a misunderstanding."

Eleanor turned toward the security chief.

"Please continue the footage."

Another clip appeared.

Earlier that afternoon.

Gregory had been seen angrily telling an assistant,

"If that little brat embarrasses me again, I'll teach her a lesson she'll never forget."

Every microphone in the room captured the words.

Every journalist heard them.

There would be no explaining them away.

The detective calmly placed Gregory's hands behind his back.

"You are being detained pending charges of felony child abuse, filing a false criminal accusation, and evidence tampering."
