Chapter 6 – Justice in Full View
Nine months later, the courtroom was filled with many of the same people who had stood silently inside the gallery.
This time...
They did not look away.
The prosecution played the CCTV footage one final time.
The jury watched Gregory strike a defenseless child.
They watched him plant the brooch.
They watched him lie.
It took less than three hours to reach a verdict.
Guilty on every count.
As deputies led Gregory away in handcuffs, he turned toward Eleanor.
"You ruined my life."
She met his eyes without anger.
"No."
"You ruined it the moment you believed power was more valuable than the truth."
Outside the courthouse, Lily stood holding her mother's hand.
The small scar above her eyebrow had nearly disappeared, but her bright smile had returned completely.
Months later, the Ashcroft Gallery unveiled a new children's education wing.
At its entrance hung a bronze plaque that read:
"Dedicated to every child brave enough to tell the truth—and every parent brave enough to stand beside them."
Beneath it, one tiny red camera light blinked quietly above the doorway.
